Alvin Harry Jones, 75, a resident of DeSoto, Texas, entered eternal rest on March 22, 2024. He was born on February 27, 1949, in Lake Providence, Louisiana. He was raised by his loving grandmother Cloatee Thomas and aunts Lauradell Brookes, Daisybell Thomas and Mable Midgett. Alvin was educated in his early years at East Carroll Elementary School and G.W. Griffin High School. Alvin played sports all four years of high school. He was the captain of his basketball team and he excelled in baseball & football as well. After graduation, he decided to further his education by attending Paul Quinn, College in Waco, Texas, where he met the love of his life in 1968, Eula Jones. He later made the decision to serve his country by joining the Military, enlisting in the Army where he traveled all over the world & bravely fought in combat with many tours including Korea and Germany. As soon as he got back to the states, he married his college sweetheart, Eula Jones. After settling in Dallas, Texas, he decided to go into business for himself and started Alvin ’ s Auto Glass & Upholstery where he provided excellent service to hundreds of customers in the Oak Cliff and surrounding areas. He then went on to work for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit agency as a bus operator for several years. Alvin also worked for Dallas College as an Upholstery Teacher for the Seagoville Prison, then onto Cedar Valley College as a Facilities Administrator for a combined total of 30+ years where he retired in 2021. After retirement, Alvin took pleasure in spending time with his family, close friends and classmates. He would always take “ His Other Woman ” (Nikon Camera), a nickname given by Eula, everywhere he went to capture special memories. Alvin ’ s photo collection consisted of thousands of beautiful pictures taken throughout his life. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Eula Jones, five brothers, Harry Jones III, Earnest Watkins, Alex Watkins, Michael Watkins, Cornell Watkins, three sisters, Patricia Watkins, Linda Watkins, Donna Watkins, two daughters, Monica Jones (Stormye), Nancy Harnish (Trino), two sons, Anthony Jones (Valerie) and Calvin Jones (Nikki), his seven grand children, Ariana Jones, Lauryn Jones, Amari Jones, Alexander Harnish, Isabel Harnish, Lorenzo Jones and Chad Jones, one great grand child, Lailoni Sweeney and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends. Alvin was preceded in death by his grandmother, Cloatee Thomas, mother - in - love, Marie Williams, aunt Daisybell Thomas and brother Curtis Watkins. Alvin enjoyed being a father, providing for his family and spending time with loved ones. Alvin and Eula recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. His final moments included rocking his great grand - baby, Lailoni to sleep and watching his favorite show with Eula. Alvin graced many places with his presence and was very well respected in his community. He leaves a tremendous legacy that will live on forever in those who knew and loved him.
