Obituary

The Life and Reflections of Annie Pearl Cleveland. AKA Shay, AKA Big Annie, was born to Mae Liza Blade Haynes and Willie Haynes Sr. on October 24th, 1953 in Brickeys, Arkansas. She was the 7th child of 16. Annie attended Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended Lee Senior High School in Marianna, Arkansas and graduated in 1971. After giving birth to her son Chester Johnson, Annie moved to Dallas where she met and married Willie Earl Cleveland. To their union, Shameka Lashay Williams, was born. When she came to Dallas, Annie became a member of Gilgal Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev L. J. Johnson, Sr. where she served as the choir president, Church Clerk and Trustee. She was also part of the mission, pastor ’ s aide and many other organizations. Annie worked at Parkland Memorial Hospital for over 40 years. In her last years working before retirement, she was an outstanding employee as an office clerk in the Domestic Violence Facility. In her younger years, Annie attended El Centro College where she enrolled in several classes. Annie ’ s favorite hobbies were shopping, singing, and making sure her family was well taken care of. Annie was preceded in death by both of her parents Willie and Mae Liza Haynes; her husband Willie Earl Cleveland; five brothers; Willie Haynes, Jr., Wilbert Haynes, Wesley Haynes, Burlon Haynes, and Cassius Haynes, Sr.; two sisters, Fannie Gardner and Novella Robinson; four brothers in law; Alvin Smith, Johnny Gardner, Tommy Kimble, and Wesley Bogart; three sisters in law; Barbara Haynes, Priscilla Haynes, and Rachel Haynes. Annie leaves to forever cherish her memory one son: Chester (Rebecca) Johnson, Jr. one daughter: Shameka (DeMarcus) Williams all of Dallas, Tx; special friend: Elven Barthley, six grandchildren: Roderick Needum, Jr., DeMaya Williams, DeMarcus Williams, Jr., Reagan Williams, Sanaa Johnson, and Emmet Perry; two great grandchildren: Heaven and Hendrix Needum; eight sisters: Curtistine (Jerry) Doss of Springfield, Illinois, Carrie Bogart of Marianna, AR, Virsey Kimble of Forrest City, AR; Mavis (Donald) Barthley, Avis (Larry) Jones all of Dallas, TX, Vinetta (David) Cross, Lucy (Corneilus) Moore both of Forrest City, AR; Kathy (Tommy) Floyd of Dallas, TX; brother - in - law: Andrew Robinson of Little Rock, AR; surviving sisters - in - law: Minnie Haynes of Chicago, IL, Sarah Haynes of Palestine, AR; two godchildren, Elijah Jones and Legacy Logan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends that loved her dearly. On Saturday, January 14th, 2023, after 69 glorious years of sharing and caring, Annie left her earthly home and entered into eternal rest.
