Charles Goodman (aka Lil ’ Bit, Lil ’ Wheat, Mr. Charlie, Papa Charles, or Mr. Goodman) Charles Goodman was born June 4, 1933, in Austin, TX, to the parentage of the late Lindsey and Elizabeth “ Lizzie ” Goodman. He was the 14th of 14 children and a fraternal twin. He was educated in the Austin School district, graduating from Anderson High School in 1952, and known as a highly regarded athlete in football and track. Charles expanded his horizons and moved to Dallas, TX, in 1954, where he met Erma Jean Morrison. The two married, and in 1955 began their family. The two were blessed with three children, Carolyn, Margaret, and Charles Jr. In 2005, he married Cora Owens and his family expanded with two stepchildren: Jennifer Molette and Bernard Owens. At a tender age Charles accepted Christ at the family ’ s church, Greater Mt. Zion. After his move to Dallas, he later joined Good Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Paster C. A. W. Clark. Charles then became a member of New Creation Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board and church choir. Charles was an avid traveler, automobile lover, sports lover, and a coordinated and dapper gentleman (always). He and his family were afforded the opportunity to experience many travel adventures. He was fortunate to visit and experience 34 countries; Japan, Europe, South America (Peru), and Alaska were among his favorite destinations. Mr. Charlie was known as a provider and hard worker. His career spanned 64 years in various industries that included food service, stock clerk and cashier, skycap/baggage handler, airport greeter, and airline ambassador. After arriving in Dallas, TX., he was recruited by multiple large hotel chains to provide food service for galas and conferences. Later, he worked for Bi - Lo Supermarket, Kroger Stores, and Tom Thumb grocery chains. In 1972, he was hired at Braniff Airways, where he excelled and developed tenure. After a brief stint at Fort Worth ISD, he began his next airport career adventures with Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, Allied, and Delta Airlines until he retired in 2017. Serving as a DFW Airport Ambassador for over 20 years, assisting airport travelers, and meeting people from across the world daily were among some of his greatest joys. Family was of utmost importance to Charles, and he imparted values and provided an example of integrity, hard work, resilience, and generosity for his children and grandson. He enjoyed spending quality time with family and demonstrating kindness, love, and speaking about the good Lord. He also respected and valued his bond with his twin brother. Everyone who knew Mr. Charlie loved and respected him because he was honest and fair. He never met a stranger, nor forgot a face or a name. Mr. Charlie was also a gifted Country Western Singer and Joke Teller. His presence will be missed deeply, but his legacy will be forever treasured. His values, charity, and legacy will continue to shine through his wife, children, grandson, and family.
