Denise Hampton
Denise Lorraine Mack Hampton was born on June 16, 1947 in Simmesport, Louisi ana to the union of the late Albert and Erma McGee Mack. Denise was baptized, at New Bethel Baptist Church at an early age where she was a member of the Junior Choir. After moving to Dallas, Texas, she attended New Mount Gilead Baptist Church where she remained faithful until the Lord called her home. Denise received her beginning education at Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Simmesport, Louisiana. She continued to further her education by attending Gram bling State University. She graduated from Bishop College with a Batchelor of Sci ence degree in 1978. Later, in 1980, she received a Master of Education degree from Prairie View A&M University. Denise was also a member of Sigma Gamma Rho So rority. Her love of learning never quenched, as she received an endorsement in Mid Management Administration from Texas Women University. Throughout her life she was a go - getter! While pursuing her education, she worked for Southwestern Bell Tel ephone Company where she advanced to supervisor. But her true passion was teach ing. She held various positions in the Dallas Independent School District as a teacher, principal, Title 1 coordinator, reading lab specialist, leadership/mentor trainer, and staff development facilitator. Only the highest level of excellence was accepted in Mrs. Hampton’s class! Denise was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1992, 1995 and 2000. Eventually, she retired from DISD, but continued to work as a substitute teacher until her passing. Denise absolutely loved her family! She could spend hours talking about how proud she was to be a part of the Mack and Stemley family. She was so happy to attend the reunions of both sides this year! While there, she regaled everyone with stories of the ancestors. She had a deep and abiding love for her children and grandchildren. She doted on her great nieces and nephews. Denise loved to have fun! She would often sing and play games with the little one, teaching them songs to perform for the family. She loved going to the casino and was one lucky lady. She was an avid watcher of her “stories”. Don’t you dare try to call her while they were on! Denise was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Richard Hampton her lifelong love and companion. From this union, two amazing children were born. Denise leaves to cherish her memory one son, Roderick D. Hampton (Markita), one daughter, Shanyeari R. Hampton, three sisters, Sharon Feggans (Michael), Ora Jacobs (Mathew) and Verdis Hensley (Lyndell). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Roderick (RJ) Hampton and Ryan Hampton, whom she absolutely adored and talked about constantly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Erma Mack and her brother, Wayne Clyde Mack. Denise was truly one of a kind! .
