Dorothy Cullors
D OROTHY M ARIE C ULLORS was born March 14, 1931 in Powhattan, Louisiana (Natchitoches Parish) to the parents of Willie and Alice Marie Mason and the oldest of 8 children. Dorothy accepted Christ at a young age and attended Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Powhattan, Louisiana. In 1947, she moved to Dallas, Texas and attended Booker T. Washington High School. She met and married the late Harold Franklin Cullors Sr., August 13, 1949, they were married for 57 years. In this union they had 6 children. Throughout her life she worked for Howard Wolf Dress Factory, Taylor Publishing Co., Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship after-school care, and retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield. Dorothy Cullors was devoted and faithful unto the Lord and daily prayed for her family. She faithfully served in the choir, missionary, evangelism, prayer line, Silver Star, and was always a helping hand serving her community. She received numerous awards from the jobs she held prior to retiring and from serving her ministries. She was a devoted member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship and served faithfully from August 6th, 1989 for 33 years. She enjoyed reading, writing, working crossword puzzles, watching family feud, listening to the teaching of God’s word, and she loved reading God’s word most, and kept her Bible opened to Psalms 23. One of her favorite things to do was write scriptures and post them around her home. She often captivated her family by telling stories like, being nominated as “best dresser” on the city bus in the 1950s and 60s, ghost stories in her hometown, growing up with her siblings and she loved so dearly. She never left the house without her orange lipstick, orange nail polish, clip-on earrings, and high heels. She was committed to her family through 5 generations as a mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She always said that her children and grandchildren were her best friends. On June 18, 2023 on Father’s Day, she was surrounded by her family as she took her wings and was greeted by our Heavenly Father and Savior ”Well done my good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:21. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Alice Mason, her husband Harold F. Cullors Sr., her son Harold F. Cullors Jr., and two sisters Betty Jackson, and Lorraine Lee. She is survived by her five children: Phelisha A. Cullors, Vannessa J. Cullors-Knighten, Annette M. Cullors, Marlon Cullors, and Darrin Cullors; grandchildren: Derrick Cullors, Kajuanna Alexander, Derica Cullors, Valisha Johnson, Charles McCoy, Demarcus Cullors, Tabrisha Haggerty, Stephanie Brewer, and Verrari Johnson; twenty great grandchildren; seventeen great great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jeanette Greene, Elouise Wafer, Gloria Mason, Annie Faye Mason; brother, Willie Cordell Mason, and a host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
