Eddie Glenn Griffin was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 3, 1946 to Eddie Griffin and Margaret Haynes. Eddie ’ s father died at an early age and his mother later married Roosevelt Haynes, who nurtured and raised Eddie. Eddie attended Fort Worth schools and graduated from I.M. Terrell High School in 1964. Eddie was a top scholar and graduated with high honors. He later joined the Army to serve his country. His time in the service took him to various regions of the world. Eddie met and married Ruth Russell. He and Ruth raised a son and a daughter together. Eddie worked for McDonalds and Associates as a Business Manager. He later became a Chief Operating Officer. Eddie worked with Opal Lee at the community - based computer school to serve, “ welfare to work mothers. ” Many women gained employment and many children became what he called, “ Whiz Kids. ” He was an activist and a leader in his community and various organizations to bring awareness, justice and change to his community. Eddie accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Metropolitan, Everman and later joined Richmond Avenue Church of Christ. He was a loyal and faithful member who loved God and God ’ s word. Eddie transitioned from labor to reward on May 6th 2023. He is proceeded in death by his parents, a grandson, and a brother. He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Edwin Russell, two daughters, Deborah Gross and Kenitra Russell, two brothers, Eugene Haynes and Ronnie Haynes, two sisters, Janice Haynes and Rochelle Bunch, two adopted sisters, Tiffany Riley (James) and Remonica Lewis (Kenneth Sr.), a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the love of his life and life long friend, Ruth Griffin.
