Mother Vallie Campbell Rogers was born September 14, 1932 in Longview, TX to the parentage of the late Willie and Willie Merle Madden. Mother Vallie was an extraordinary woman known for her talent and kindness. In her youth, Mother Vallie completed high school where she excelled at running track and embarked upon a career that allowed her to showcase her artistic abilities. She worked at Marge’s Stationary Shop where she excelled as an engraver, gift wrapper and shop manager for 30 years. Her attention to detail and creativity brought joy to countless customers who received her beautifully crafted gifts. Mother Vallie was truly a remarkable person. She was known for her warm heart, sassy spirit, and unwavering generosity. Her compassion knew no bounds as she always went above and beyond to assist those in need. Her selflessness and willingness to lend a helping hand made her a cherished friend among the people who had the privilege of knowing her. Mother Vallie married the late Bishop Leonard Campbell where she served as First Lady of Mount Pilgrim Free Will Baptist Church for many years. As First Lady she served in many capacities, i.e., the women’s ministry, mission board, as a member of Eastern Star and wherever she was needed. She was well known for her skills in the kitchen where she would cook an Anniversary Appreciation dinner for the entire church family to show gratitude for their kindness. To this union, the Campbell’s had six (6) children; Linda Ross, Abner Campbell (deceased), Barbara Ann Campbell (deceased), Leonard Campbell, Jr. (Tina – deceased), Annie Campbell Vickers and Reuben Campbell (Diana). They have nine (9) grandchildren; Demetria LeBlanc (Chris), Kimberly Palmer (Chris), Solomon Evans, Sedrick Evans (Kimberly), David Campbell Vickers, Clint Vickers, Shernet Townes (Billy), Toddrick Campbell and Kameron Campbell. Eighteen (18) great grandchildren and seven (7) great, great grandchildren. Mother Vallie later remarried the late Deacon N.B. Rogers on November 29, 1997, and became a step-mother to six (6) children; Doris Rogers, Joyce Rogers McCowan (Walter), Evelyn Rogers Dillard, Kenneth Rogers (Paula), Vernon Rogers (Mary) and Priscilla Rogers Brooks (Brock – deceased) and 20 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. She also leaves her five (5) siblings to cherish her precious memories; Sally Brockington, Annie Johnson, Louis Madden, Augusta Madden, Ora Lee Starks (Lonnie) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
