George Douglas Buchanan Jr. was born on May 19,1972, in Dallas, TX to the late George D. Buchanan Sr and Dorothy Terrell. He attended and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1990. He attended Grambling State University where he was a member of the Grambling State World Famed Marching Tiger Band. The years he spent at Grambling were some of his most joyful and memorable moments in his life. He would often come home and tell stories about him and the other “ Dallas boys ” and their band escapades. He and his friends would gather in the front yard and do marching drills and do high knee holds. We would have a pre - game show before the Cotton Bowl every year. It was a joy to witness their comradery and love they had for the music and for each other. George came to know Jesus early in life. He worked along side his father in ministry at Faith Tabernacle COGIC. He sang in the choir and performed gospel skits and plays. He often played the preacher. He “ preached ” so hard one performance that he scared himself. He was a character! After college, George returned home and began working for Andrews Distributing where he worked for 30 years. He was a hard - working man, and he took great pride in his work as the Distribution Center Inventory Manager. He talked fondly about his coworkers and Andrews family. He was a respected friend and colleague. His love for music inspired him to collaborate with his late cousin, Sedric Owens, where they formed “ SoFly ” Music productions. He would work on music for days at a time. George also had the opportunity to assist with the band and flag corps at then A Maceo Smith High School. He loved the kids and the kids loved him. He would get things going on the field … he could be heard declaring ….” here we go! ” and they knew exactly what to do. He also worked intermittently at Sandaga where he was able to enjoy what he loved most, good music. He was industrious. He had recently started repairing shoes. He found joy and pride in his ability to bring old worn and tattered shoes back to life. He worked miracles with his hands. George was a fun loving and witty man. He was naturally funny, and he had a chuckle that was contagious. His smile was big and genuine. He was big in stature, but he was indeed a GENTLE GIANT as some would affectionately call him. He was mild mannered, but he could get loud when he debated and cheered for his beloved Dallas Cowboys! He was the unofficial Cowboys commentator on Facebook. He was a hometown sports fan indeed. George loved his family. He was the apple of his mother ’ s eye. He was the protector, counselor, love coach and second father to his siblings. He was Uncle Doug to his nieces, nephews and younger cousins. He was Big G, to his friends and Doug to his Marburg crew …. boy did they cut up! George was a loveable person, and his personality left a lasting impression on everyone who was blessed to be in his presence. He was indeed a gentleman and a “ class act ”. He will be missed tremendously! He leaves to mourn his passing but to relish his memory: his mother, Dorothy Terrell; three sisters Genevra Buchanan, Casetta Shephard (James), and Yolanda Owens; two brothers Joshua Buchanan and Rodney Owens; five nephews Uriah and Semaj Shephard, Tyler Roberson, Rodney Owens Jr and Xion Buchanan; one niece, Joshlynn Buchanan; one great - nephew, Semaj Shephard Jr; one Godchild, Lavender Patterson and bonus mother, Loretta Buchanan; his father George Buchanan Sr. and one niece, Kennedy Roberson preceded him in death. He also leaves an uncle, aunts and a host of cousins, friends, coworkers, and classmates.
