Ida Hayes
I DA J EWEL P ROCKS H AYES was born June 14, 1929 in Hallsville, Texas to the parentage of the Inez and Fenton Hayes. She grew up with nine siblings in a home filled with love. Ida was the oldest child and became the matriarch of her family. Ida accepted Christ at an early age by uniting the Golden Hill Baptist Church in Hallsville, Texas. She attended Longview High School. She and Sylvester Hayes, Sr. were blessed with three children, Bobbie, Linda, and Don. In 1955, Ida relocated to Dallas, where she met and married Alonzo Procks. Alonzo preceded her in death. She later remarried the late Sylvester Hayes, Sr. Ida united with the Good Shepherd Primitive Baptist Church in 1960, under the leadership of the late Elder George W. Nelson. Ida was a faithful and dedicated member. She worked diligently with all auxiliaries and was always willing to do whatever was needed. Ida was honored at Good Shepherd Primitive Baptist Church as Woman of the Year in 1976 and Ms. Good Shepherd in 2005. She served as President for Senior Choir and President of the Mother's Board for many years. Ida worked in her early years as an elevator operator in Longview, Texas. After moving to Dallas, she served as a as a homemaker in several private residences taking great pride in her work. Her work ethic, reliability, and quiet strength left a lasting impact on the families she served. Ida's hobbies were sewing, cooking and styling hair. She enjoyed sewing for her two daughters and doing their hair for special occasions. Ida loved her three children dearly and leaves a legacy of love, family compassion, and cleanliness. She taught her children to trust God always. She wanted them to always be there for each other, no matter the circumstances. Ida was always at her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren baby blessings, birthdays, graduations, weddings, and other occasions. Ida truly loved her family. Ida was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Velma, Vallie, and lvena; brothers, Willie, Robert, James A., James E., Ervin, and Roye; and son, Don Hayes. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Bobbie Hayes of DeSoto and Linda Hayes Jenkins of Dallas; one daughter- in-law, Delois Hayes; one sister- in law, Louise Hayes; three grandchildren, Gail (Vince) Anthony of Los Angeles, CA, Kristi Purvey and Chanel Hayes of Dallas; four great grandchildren, Sevan, Laila, Jaiden, and Victoria; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
