James Oliver Harrison, 89, of Marlin, Texas passed from this life into eternal life on Friday October 14, 2022 in Dallas, Texas BORN: James was born on February 6,1933 in Marlin, Texas, the son of J.D and Arlilia Harrison . EARLY YEARS: James grew up being the oldest of four siblings, one brother and
two sisters. He took an early liking to fishing, bowling, hunting, horseback riding, barbecuing, swimming, spending time with love ones, and working outside. At a early age, James accepted his Lord and Savior under the pasturage of Rev. Hegman and later became a devoted member of St. Paul AME church. James also had a entrepreneurial spirit, at the age of 7 he would sale various fruits, vegetables, and nuts to aid his grandmother (Mama B. Harrison). Later on he became a crop puller (cotton). He enjoyed spending his free time on his fishing boat. EDUCATION: James graduated from Booker T. Washington High School as a AP student (Advanced Placement) in Marlin, Texas. Following his graduation, James and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. In order to assist his parents, James decided to make a selfless decision to leave Paul Quinn College and enlist into The United States Army. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged. He later met and married Alice Rae Cargill in Satin, Texas. After marriage, he moved her to Dallas, TX and to this union four children were born: Terry Wayne (his daughters, Kennedy Tea', Jay'ne LaShon, Phyllis LaRue) Michelle Yvette (her sons, James Isaiah, Tarrence Michael), Nicole Shenette: her husband Fredrick Johnson (daughter Nadia Alise), in addition to the four Linda Childress and her family. James and Alice were charter members of New Birth under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. G. W. Pryor where he was a faithful servant for 58 years where he served as the chairman of the Deacon Board. He would always tell you about the goodness of the Lord. James was the president to the family business, Harrison Asphalt & Paving Co. He was a devoted husband, loving father and caring enough to open his home to many loved ones and friends. James Oliver Harrison leaves his two sisters: Alma Jewel Harrison Pryor and Freddie Pool; four children: Phyllis, Linda, Michelle, Nicole; and host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends to cherish his memories. He was preceded in death by his parents’ and Arlilia, son: Terry Wayne, brother: Ervin, and loving wife: Alice.
