Katharine Henderson Program

Katharine Henderson was born on September 17, 1938 in Willis, TX to the parentage of Elder Lawrence and Mary Henderson. Katharine was a devoted and loving daughter to her parents and the oldest of ten children. Katharine accepted Christ at an early age and united with Bethel Temple COGIC under the leadership of Bishop Nelson. Even in her early years, she began singing for God, and sang in her church choir. Katharine Henderson was educated in the Nacogdoches School District. After growing into adulthood Katharine moved with her cousins in Detriot, MI and later moved to Milwaukee, WI. There she met and married Paul E. McCarter and to this union two daughters were born Linda Kay Swindell and Audrey Johnson. Katharine later moved to Dallas, TX in 1965 and worked for Cenvo Company as a print jetsetter. She retired from Cenvo in January of 2006 after 37 years. Still young and vibrant, she went on to work for DISD as a cafeteria worker for 12 years. Katharine united with Pages Temple COGIC when she first moved to Dallas, then later joined United Pentecostal COGIC, under the leadership of Supt. Norris Scott. She served with United faithfully until her health failed her. Katharine Henderson was a faithful follower of God. Her love of singing was what we all will remember her by. Over the years she sang with various churches and groups. She sang with the Texas Northeast Gospel Choir (HUMS), and Northeast Texas State Choir. We all know she was capable of making up a choir wherever she went, known as Sis. Kat’s MUCC (Made UP Community Choir). Some of her favorite songs she loved to lead were “I've Already Been to the Water”, “God is my Everything”, “The Holy Ghost”, “I’m Not Tired Yet”, and “When I Rose This Morning”. Anywhere she went, she was always asked to lead a song that got the congregation stirred up and ready for praise. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Mary Henderson, and three siblings. Her oldest daughter Linda Kay Swindell, and granddaughter Naresha Henderson. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter, Audrey Johnson (Vernon); siblings, Hattie Scott (Norris), Isaiah Henderson (Alice), Clarence Henderson (Carolyn), Versie Alexander, Naomi Henderson, and Mary Lou Henderson; grandchildren, Kevin Henderson (Quan), Crystal Acy (Deon), Shekel McCarter, Victoria Johnson, Vernon "Deuce" Johnson, VeAundria Johnson; great grandchildren, Kelonn Henderson, Christopher Henderson, Javion Swindell, Jayda McCann, Ayden Brown; great great grandson Elijah "Eli" Henderson. Her warm spirit and smile will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
