T HE L IFE R EFLECTIONS OF K EVIN Y OUNG Kevin Young was born November 8, 1964, to the late Excell Pendelton, Jr. and Myrtle Lucas. Kevin was raised with his loving and compassionate mother and the stern hand of his father and step-father Wilmer Young who adopted Kevin at the age of eight. As a young child, Kevin grew up playing football and several musical instruments at Edwards Elementary and George Washington Carver Jr. and Sr. High School in the Press Park community of New Orleans, Louisiana. Kevin accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Noily Paul, Sr at St. Rose Baptist Church, New Orleans, Louisiana. After his relocation to the DFW area, Kevin attended Friendship West Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III. As the middle child of two sisters, Barbara (Bobbie) Grigley and Roxanne Young, Kevin learned early that he had to protect his family as the oldest male child with sisters and nieces. February 17, 1981, was a defining day for Kevin, as he became a father to his namesake, Kevin Young, Jr. As a young father, he paved the path by continuing his education, graduating in 1982 from George Washington Carver High School. He then attended Tulane University on a football scholarship. In 1987, Kevin graduated from Utah State, in Logan, Utah, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism. During the 1987 NFL season, Kevin was given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play professional football for the New Orleans Saints, which solidified him as a Saints Fan for Life. After football, Kevin’s career began in Utah, as a Probation Officer. He moved to the DFW area, in 1989, where he worked as a Probation Officer for Dallas County. As a child, Kevin watched his male role models’ entrepreneurship, and his ultimate goal became to work for himself. While pursuing his goals, he often quoted his father, "Don't wait on anybody to give you an opportunity, when you can create your own opportunity". Kevin nurtured his dream while working part time as a Real Estate Agent under Louis Laurent and Associates. During an open house in 1999, Kevin met the love of his life, Olga Demeta Alexander, in the Hollywood Park Community in Duncanville, TX. On August 15, 2002, they married, and Kevin, knowing the importance of influence, raised Andrew Thompson as his own. In 2000, Kevin started KYII Realtors with the first location on Camp Wisdom in Dallas. In 2006, he purchased his final location in Duncanville on Cedar Ridge Rd. On November 15th of 2005, his princess was born, Jade Myrietta Young. As a family man, Kevin built a legacy, modeling his life after his sayings, “ Keep it Moving ,” “ They Will Figure it Out ,” and “ Ain’t Nothing Changed .” Kevin was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle L. Jackson, father, Excell Pendleton Jr., step -fathers, Wilmer Young and Alfred Jackson Jr., and step-siblings. He leaves to cherish his memories and legacy to his beloved wife, Olga D. Young; sons, Kevin Young Jr., and Andrew Thompson (Shawntrey); his daughter, Jade Myrietta Young; his granddaughter Sevin Yolan Young; grandsons Kace and Zayn Thompson; his sisters, Barbara Grigley and Roxanne Young; step-sister Linda Pendleton-Woods (Michael); other step-siblings; childhood friend, Walter Mitchell (Cynthia); and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.
