Her Birth… On July 30, 1936 an adorable baby girl was born and entrusted to Otto and Mattie Miller. The proud parents called their gift from God, Lois Jean. She was raised on the Southside of Fort Worth. Lois Jean accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church serving as a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, choir member and church clerk ͘ Her Education and Career…
She attended James E Guinn School and I M Terrell Senior High. After high school, she enrolled in Prairie View A&M College, successfully earning a Bachelor of Arts and Science degree in Graduate Studies. She continued her academic career and received a Masters degree in Education from Prairie View
A&M College. After completing her studies, she returned home to Fort Worth and began a teaching career in Fort Worth ISD. During this time she completed a second Masters degree in Guidance Counseling from North Texas State University. After 32 years teaching, she retired in May 1991. Her Legacy… Lois Jean Jones was a proud I M Terrell graduate and sang in the alumni choir. She was also a Life member of Prairie View A&M Alumni Association. She volunteered at the American Cancer Society for many years, serving as a board member, receptionist, chairperson for the annual breast cancer forum, district trainer, and many other roles.. As a member of the Susan G. Komen Society, she devoted countless hours to the organization and was passionate about teaching breast cancer awareness to both women and men. She attended the annual walks to raise money, facilitated health fairs, lectured at churches, provided materials on breast cancer awareness throughout the community and visited numerous patients helping them on their way to recovery. She was a Fort Worth Retired Employee Association Life Member as well as a Volunteer for Senior Friends Association. Her Family… On December 3, 1964, Lois Jean Miller married Willie Thurlow Jones. They remained a loving couple for over fifty-five years. Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you and where I go, you may go also"- John 14:3. On August 30, 2021, Lois Jean entered a prepared place for a prepared people. She entered the Gates of Heaven where she has cast her crown at the feet of Jesus. “She fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith. Now there is in store for her a crown of righteousness”- 2 Timothy 4:7-8. She is now reunited with her husband Willie T and her beloved parents. Those who are left with cherished memories are her loving and devoted children, Sherri D. Neal (Fredy) of Tyler,TX, Monica A. Breland and Amy W. Akanni of Fort Worth, TX, grandchildren, Christopher Breland, Arthur Breland (Gelisa) and Aiden Dixon, great granddaughter, Kaidyn Breland and a host of nieces, nephews , cousins, godchildren, and friends.
