Mary Hood

T HE L IFE OF Mother Mary Yvonne Hood

How do we even begin the life reflections of our beloved M ARY Y VONNE H OOD . She was born in Mexia, TX to Mary Helen Wilson and Vernell Medlock on February 25, 1954, and broke our hearts when God called her home on October 16, 2023, at 10:49am.

Mary lived a very full life, full of the love for her family, friends, and church family.

She was a God-fearing woman who loved the Lord. Mary fellowshipped with Bethlehem Pentecostal Holiness Church with her beloved husband Bobby Hood, whom she joined in Holy Matrimony on December 18, 1998. She was a well-known fixture at Bethlehem Holiness and loved by many. Mary Hood was a phenomenal woman! She worked hard for her family and retired from a long career of bussing children for DISD. She was a nurturing and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She birthed 6 beautiful children – (preceded her in death Bridget Body), Otica Perkins, Derrick Johnson, Natasha West, Shiniqua West, Jason West. She was an exceptionally loving and caring sister to Don Leonard Medlock, Joyce Sandifer, Betty Rochelle, Dannie Rochelle, and was preceded in death by James Rochelle. She was also preceded in death by her mother Mary Helen Wilson. She treated her host of nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She always had a kind word and wise advice to impart and always greeted you with a warm jovial hug and smile. She also was an avid fisherwoman. In fact, she was born into an entire family of hardcore fishing, the type to where you didn’t even bring food with you because you were so sure you were going to catch your food! She passed on this skill to her legacy of children and grandchildren. We all thought we would have more time on this earth with you, but like a thief in the night, you were called home. We realize that heaven couldn’t wait for you, but when you left, you left many broken hearted. We know you wouldn’t want us to be downtrodden and find a way to get even closer in memory of you, and that we will do. So well done, thy good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21). Saying Mary Hood was thrifty would be an understatement! She was always up to find the best bargains around! There wasn’t a garage sale that was safe from her!
