Nathaniel Carroll Sr

Nathaniel Carroll Sr., 73, of Mesquite, Texas, passed on August 6, 2025, at his home.

Born on July 24, 1952, in Natchez, Mississippi, Nathaniel was a devoted family man, veteran, and entrepreneur who touched the lives of all who knew him.

E ARLY L IFE AND F AMILY H ERITAGE Nathaniel was the son of Robert Carroll, Sr. (born 1924) and Emma Lee Gaines Carroll (born 1931). He was the beloved paternal grandson of Herman Carroll and Eliza Carroll and the maternal grandson of Charlie Gaines and Isabella King. He is the maternal great-grandson of Daniel King and Katie Wilkins, as well as the maternal great-great-grandson of Landon (1835) and Katie Wilkins (1849) Nathaniel grew up alongside his siblings: Robert Carroll, Herman Carroll, Richard Lee Carroll (1951), Edward Lee Carroll (1956), Christa Carroll, Mark Anthony Carroll, and Wayne Carroll. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Lee Carroll and his parents. M ARRIAGES He married twice. In 1977, he married Rosita Hudson. To this union, two children were born: Damien Carroll, and Nathaniel Carroll, Jr. In 2002, he married his soul mate, Debra Lissa Adams. To their union, a son, Travis Carroll, was born. M ILITARY S ERVICE AND A THLETIC P URSUITS A proud veteran, Nathaniel served a tour of duty in the United States Navy, where he discovered his passion for boxing. During his naval service, he became an accomplished boxer, with one of the highlights of his boxing career being the opportunity to serve as a sparring partner to Heavyweight Champion George Foreman. He would often recount this experience with pride, saying, "Man, he can hit." This love for boxing remained with him throughout his life as he continued to follow the sport as an avid fan. In his younger years, Nathaniel was also passionate about tennis, spending countless hours perfecting his game on the courts. C AREER AND P ERSONAL L IFE After his military service, Nathaniel built a successful career with the U.S. Post Office, where he retired as a mail handler after years of dedicated service. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to invest in real estate, demonstrating the keen business acumen that would become his hallmark. He also operated an auto mechanic shop for several years.
