Obituary Jo 14:13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! Ollie (Tonka) Lee Franklin Jr ., age 77 received his heavenly crown and robe on October 13, 2022. He was born on July 19, 1945 in Longview, Texas to the late Sudie Alexander Franklin and Ollie Lee Franklin, Sr. Ollie graduated from Womack High School in Longview Texas in 1963. He then went to Jarvis Christian College and later to Southern University A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he met Shirley Marie Nash. Through this relationship his daughter Klintania Daneen Nash was born. Ollie met and married Dorothy Maxine Byrd Franklin after moving to Dallas, Texas and together they reared Carlos Byrd, Sr. They were married for 17 1/2 years. Later in his life he married his current spouse Lillie Mae Thompson Franklin. Ollie had a high spirit for life. He worked hard and played even harder. He loved his beloved South Dallas and Holmes Street. His working career started with Delta Steel where he was a maintenance tech making bombs and missile parts. He later join the General Dynamics family where he continued his work of making bombs and missiles used in the war(s). Here Ollie worked until his retirement. Ollie was most happy when his family was all together, he loved spending time with his grandkids, Ke’Antae and Ke’Andre and currently his great grandkids, Karter and Renaya Nash. He just loved for them to come over and spend nights with him, if the parents would have allowed Ollie would have kept them all 365. They gave him life. Ollie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Irma Alexander and Mary Wilkins; two brothers, Cecil Brookings and Jesse Lee Porter; his mother in law, Mary Miller; step-grandson, Marquise Thompson and a special Aunt Annie Allen. Those left to cherish his memories are: his wife Lillie Mae Franklin; one daughter, Klintania Daneen Nash of Dallas, Texas; one step-daughter Tonnette Thompson of Houston, Texas; three step-sons, Carlos (Tinepa) Byrd, Sr. of Dallas, Texas, Stevie Thompson of Lancaster, Texas and James (Tracy) Thompson of North Carolina; one sister, Vera Nelson of Longview, Texas; one brother, Edison (Orene) Franklin of Longview, Texas; two grandchildren, Ke’Antae and Ke’Andre Nash both of Dallas, Texas; eight step-grandchildren; three great grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
