Ora Lee Lewis was born January 9, 1939 to the parentage of Oscar and Susie Terrell in McKinney, Tx. She was the fourth of six children. The family moved to Dallas in 1950. She attended John Washington Elementary and Irving Public Elementary. And later graduated St. Peters Academy in May of 1959. After high school she worked at Baylor hospital as a bus girl and also at Thomas Jefferson High School as a pastry cook. In 1961, she married Lee Lewis, and conceived Frederick Lanier Lewis. She later married Malcolm Sheffield and Sheneka Lynette Sheffield was born. On January 3, 1969, Ora Lewis started her career in child development, and over the next 42 years worked at a number of Head Start centers around the DFW metroplex. In 1976 she received her CDA credentials from Texas Women’s University. And later furthered her education at Eastfield Community College where she received an associates degree in applied science. She loved running into her old students and being remembered by them! In the mid 1950’s she became a member of Ledbetter Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed. Under the pastorage of Don W. Bryant, Ora served as church secretary, a member of the deaconess board, the usher board, and also sung in the choir. Her favorite hobbies were cooking and baking for others. She was preceded in death by her son, Frederick Lewis; parents, Oscar and Susie and Oscar Terrell; sister, Shirley Terrell; brothers Leroy, Leonard, Marvin Sr and Eddie Terrell; and numerous nephews, uncles and aunts. Ora leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Sheneka; two granddaughters, D’Shaila Willis (Devion) and Keedra Sheffield; two great grandchildren, Jeremiah and Alena Willis; and a host of loving family, church family and friends.
