Ozzie Woodkins

O ZZIE “P ETE ” W OODKINS J R . was born August 23, 1941 to Ozie Woodkins Sr. and Mrs. Annie B. Edwards Woodkins in Marshall, TX. He was the first born of three children. At an early age, he united with the James Chapel Baptist Church in Marshall, TX. After moving to Dallas, he united with Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, TX where he was a faithful member until his health declined. Ozzie was a 1961 graduate of H. B. Pemberton High School in Marshall, TX. He received a track scholarship and attended Arkansas AM & N College in Pine Bluff, AR. He attended Welding School, retired as a professional welder from Gardner Denver in Dallas, TX. His pride employment was driving DART Trains/Buses, Tour Charter Buses and School Buses. He owned “Pete’s” Custom Printing T-Shirts and Notary. In 1967, he married Vashti Lester, to that union one child was born, “Lisa Carol”. Later a relationship with Ruby Stine Jackson, one son was born, Ozzie “Nukkie” Jackson. He has been married to a loving and devoted wife, Vera Arnett Woodkins for the past 35 years. Ozzie was preceded in death by his father, Ozie Woodkins Sr.; mother, Annie B. Woodkins; two sisters, Carolyn Woodkins Smith and Annie Ruth Green Stoker; one niece, Nannette Green Davis; two nephews, Clarkton Smith, Jr. and Troy Wayne Smith all of Marshall, TX; a number of aunts and uncles. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Vera Arnett Woodkins of DeSoto, TX; daughter, Lisa Carol Woodkins of Lancaster, TX; one son, Ozzie (Antoinette) Jackson of DeSoto, TX; four granddaughters, Leandra Rattler of Plano, TX, Latavia Stampley of Lancaster, TX, Mariah and Amoni Jackson of DeSoto, TX; grandsons, Devon, Lynden and Cayden Jackson of DeSoto, TX; great granddaughter, Legaci Gray of Lancaster, TX; two stepsons, Cedric Manning of Round Rock, TX and Stacy Manning of Dallas, TX; one “special” nephew, Winfred “Bo” Green, Jr. of Marshall, TX; and a “special” niece, Veronica “Sistergirl” Smith of Marshall, TX; niece, Deneen Smith of Arlington, TX; nephews, Terence “Maurice” (Yolanda) Green of Garland, TX, Kevin Green of Grand Prairie, TX and Trini Green of Marshall, TX; two step- granddaughters, Jessica Manning of Lancaster, TX and Tishea Carraway of Lancaster, TX; a very “special” in-law, Beverly Steward of Dallas, TX; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; co-workers—bus drivers: DISD, Bro. Eddie Hopkins, Mr. Donald Wiley, “Big” George, Ricky Walker, Terry Smith, Sonny Cooper and Lowell Cheney.
