Thomas W. Silmon was born on July 3, 1935 to the parentage of Sylvester and Mozelle Silmon in Jacksonville Texas.

Thomas married his honey, as he lovingly called her, Marie Silmon March 21, 1958. From their union, they had two daughters Jacquelyn and Renee’. He was a faithful, caring and devoted husband and father. He gave his life to Christ at a young age and lived and carried it out until his departure. He has been a member of Greater New Bethel Baptist Church for over 25 years, where he served with his whole heart as a deacon and at whatever capacity requested. He loved to serve. Prior, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Hamilton Park where he served as a deacon and usher for over 25 years. Thomas was an entrepreneur in all ways. If you knew him, you know exactly what that means. He loved his profession as a truck driver owner and operator. His love for trucks, automobiles and any kind of repair is what brought him much joy and to many of us, laughter. He was a handy man of ALL things, for the exception of the newer model cars and trucks, as he would call them ‘lately cars’. He would fix -break most things like, toilets, washing machines, dryers, lawn mowers, roofs, plumbing, gutters, bicycles, compressors, a/c units, welding units, trucks, cars, steering wheels and he could even sew a little bit. So, there are several pairs of pants with asymmetrical hems and a few blazers with missing lining. While working on some of his projects you would hear him say ‘hot’ta mighty’ followed by ‘that ain’t nothing, all I got to do is…’ His optimistic views and positivity made the projects bearable and less stressful for those of us that had to repair and or replace the fix/break. He was such an amazingly happy man and there was NOTHING he couldn’t do and NOTHING he wouldn’t do for his family. His grands lovingly called him poppy, which he thoroughly enjoyed hearing their little voices call out. They added so much more to the length, quality and joy of his life. He would attend as many of their events as possible and cheer like he really knew what was going on. He got so much joy from seeing them thrive in all areas of their young lives, mainly in their education, as he was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed learning from and being taught by his grands. Their faces would light up as he showed he cared for anything they were showing. It was nothing for him to ask to keep their textbooks as they promoted from one level to the next. His advice to them all would be to get your education. It meant everything to him. You would see him sitting and reading for hours, the Bible being his favorite book, anything math related and or science. He just KNEW he had the algorithm figured out to win the lottery. He was fun, loving, caring, kind, humble, determined, dedicated, gentle, positive, kept a smile and loved to sing. There’s so much more to say about this amazing man, but I’ll leave you with this. Thomas W. Silmon left a legacy for so many others to follow. His dash was filled to the brim. He would want us all to make every effort to grow closer to GOD and seek salvation. Be always respectful and treat others how you’d want to be treated. Young men, pull your pants up and get up each day ready to work. Keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

His presence will be missed, but we rejoice in knowing he’s present with the Lord. He left us well.

He leaves to mourn his daughter’s Jacquelyn and Renee’, four grandchildren (Courtney, EJ, Jada and Landon), eight great grandchildren, one sister Beverly George, two brothers (Donald and Sylvester Silmon), one special niece/sister (Jill Trim) and host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
