O BITUARY W ALTER T HOMAS H IGH was born in Dallas, Texas on October 1, 1948 to the late Sam and Johnnie Mae High. The eldest of the High children, Walter embraced his role and loved all of his family members like only he could. W ALTER , T HE M AN After graduating high school in 1967, Walter furthered his education at Tennessee State University where he played football and met Jacquelyn Robin, who was his wife for over 53 years. After college, Walter was drafted by the Baltimore Colts. Upon the completion of his football career, Walter worked as an owner operator of High’s Sand and Gravel. He also spent many years working for the Salvation Army as an Athletic Director at both the Cedar Crest and Pleasant Grove locations. Coach High mentored and loved many youth and young adults over the years. In 1988, Walter began working at ABF Motor Freight Company, as their first African American in management. He retired from ABF in 2013. Walter served faithfully as a Deacon at “The Exciting” Singing Hills Baptist Church. He loved his church and his church family. Working annually on the college scholarship golf tournament allowed him to do two of the things he loved the most, help others and play golf! Walter held many titles in his life, from Coach to Deacon, but his favorite role was being a father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always there for them, whether it be cheering at a dance recital or at a football game. Walter leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy, his loving wife of 53 years, Jaquelyn Robin. Four Children , Reginald (Tina), Rodney (Sandra), Kimberly Renee’ - his favorite daughter, and Walter (Monica). Seven grandchildren, Aaren, Jerrod, Austin, Ashleigh, Lauren, Rodney and Miles. And One great granddaughter, Ellie. Other family members include his siblings, Samuel Ray, Ronald (Sheila) and Kimberly Ann. His special Aunt, Rose Giles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews and a close circle of friends.
