Perhaps you sang a cheerful song, if so, we heard it all.

Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say.

Perhaps you prepared a tasty dish, or maybe furnished a car.

Perhaps you rendered a service unseen, near at hand or from afar.

Whatever you did to console our hearts, by word or deed or touch.

Whatever was the kindly part, we thank you, oh so very much.

Alma Marie Swanson was born August 2, 1950, in Pecos, Texas to the late Leslie and Willie Shorter. Alma was known as Poochie by family and to others she was also known as Brown Sugar. In 1985, she married her late husband Fred Swanson who left us in June 2025. She worked at Pyote Boy ’ s & Girl ’ s Home for many years as a house parent. She was also a CNA at Lamesa Nursing Home. Alma suffered from congestive heart failure and renal kidney failure for many years. She fought a good fight; boy did she put up a fight. She was preceded in death by her (stepfather) Frank Shorter. Her sisters, Sandra and Mearlynn Shorter. Brothers Edward Lewis, Neal Lewis, Douglas Shorter and Cleburn Joiner. Her beloved grand - daughter Keyanna Sansbury. Alma leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters Janiell Gray (Zachery) Tiffany Swanson (De ’ Andre), Tamica Joiner (Keith), Shadnica Joiner (Jay). Bonus daughters: Lori Peterson, Shatarri Singleton, Rhonda Richardson. Grand daughter Druscilla that she raised as her own. Her sisters: Mary Beasley (Antonie), Patsy Shorter, Sheila and Regina Joiner, Martha Blackmon. Bonus sisters: Theresa Holcomb / Faye Manuel. Her brothers: Rodney Joiner, Promise Joiner, and Ron Joiner (Samantha). Alma leaves behind five granddaughters, two grandsons, ten great grandchildren not including all the ones that she adopted. She has a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
