Apostle Darrell Yancey was born September 24, 1959 to Charlene Edwards and William Cluster Yancey in West Helena, AR. While Darrell was an infant, his mother married John A. Washington Jr. and they raised Darrell. Darrell attended West Helena Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1978. Immediately after graduating high school, Darrell began serving his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a son of the Churches of God in Christ and Godson of the late Bishop L.T. Walker. He accepted his call to the ministry and began preaching at the age of 7, taking his first sermon from the 23RD Psalm. Darrell was ordained a minister March 1, 1981 at Power House COGIC, formerly Adams Chapel under the leadership of Bishop Walker. God began to open doors of evangelism for this aspiring minister and lead him on a path of ministry that would take him through West Helena, Little Rock and Warren, AR where Darrell founded Turning Point Church in 1985. The church thrived for 5 years until the Lord lead Darrell to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Shortly after arriving in Dallas, while attending a youth revival in December 1990 at Set Free Deliverance Church (under the leadership of the late Apostle Morris E. Rolfe), Darrell took notice of a young woman directing the choir named, Michele. On March 1, 2003, Darrell and Michele married and shared their life together until his death. Darrell loved to sing. He had been singing in church since he was a 5-year-old. Upon arriving in the metroplex, Darrell joined The NeWork Community Choir, under the direction of it’s founder, Carnell Murrell. Carnell introduced Darrell to the DFW Mass Choir where he gained international notoriety as the lead singer of the 1993 project title song, “Another Chance” written by Kirk Franklin. Darrell later established his own recording choir, Darrell Yancey & Shekinah in 1994. Darrell and the choir recorded 3 projects, God Will Never Fail (Tyscot Records); Who is Like the Lord? (Redemption Records); and Do the Right Thang! (Born Again Records). Darrell later renamed the group Darrell Yancey and True Covenant and in 2002 released it’s project, Let’s Reign on Yanzz Music. Darrell’s final project, befittingly titled HE SHALL REIGN, was released in 2019. Darrell always said “He was a preacher that sings, not a singing preacher”. Many of the singers and musicians in the choir were members of his church, Turning Point Ministries. Darrell continued to serve as Founder and leader of Turning Point Ministries until his death. Apostle Yancey was the epitome of the Word of God and principles that he taught. He faithfully persevered and continued preaching through his most challenging trials til his death on March 2, 2023. He demonstrated obedience to God, whatever the cost and lived out his most common statement and one of his most notable sermons; “Sink, swim, perish or survive, I will obey God. Even if it don’t make sense, but because God said so.” Darrell was preceded in death by stepfather, John A. Washington Jr., mother, Charlene Washington; father, William Yancey; sisters Latonya Marie and Rhonda Denise Yancey; and one son, Caleb White.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 20 years, Michele Renee Yancey; his siblings, John A. (Linda) Washington, III, Lora Ann Washington, James (Mary) Washington all of West Helena, AR, Franchot Yancey, Marcel Yancey and Cheryl Yancey all of San Francisco, CA. All of his children, step children, grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. To carry on his legacy of ministry, members of Turning Point Ministries Dallas and Arkansas.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
