Barbara Harrell Program 12
October 12, 1942—August 7, 2023
R EVELATIONS 21:3-6 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. Th Life Our beloved B ARBARA J EAN H ARRELL was born on October 12,1942 in Calhoun City, Mississippi to the parentage of Clinton and Birdie Lee Lawrence after moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the age of 5. P ROVERBS 31:28-31 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Barbara’s therapy was cooking and making cakes, and everybody loved her cakes. Barbara was a wonderful mother to us and all who knew her. Our mother was the greatest caregiver and nurturer. She could tell you what was wrong when you didn’t feel good or by just looking at you when something was wrong. She would say take this, use that, buy that or put this on it. Then say let me fix you something to eat. Our mother was something else in the kitchen. You never met anyone who didn’t like her cooking. We will miss her fried chicken & mash potatoes, her turkey & dressing, her hams & potato salad, her lasagna & deviled eggs and we all agree her mac & cheese & lemonade and of course who could forget the Kool-Aid. Our mother was called by many names, in growing up all our friends to this day called her MS Harrell or Moms. Her sisters and in-laws called her Barbara. Her nieces & nephews called her Aunt Barbara, but you had those few with names or sayings of their own; Shirley called her Big Red. Amber called her Ain ’tie Barbara, and no one can say that like she can. Duke said she was that fine auntie. You must understand she was only about 7 – 10 years older than them so she was like their big sister. To her grandchildren she was Grams, Grandma & Nana. But to her children she was simply Momma. The most loving name she was known for was what her husband our Daddy called her Babs!
Now that the torch has been passed to the children of Barbara Jean Harrell, we promise to keep her memory and spirit alive with all our heart, mind and soul through the help of God’s grace. To God be the glory that we remember whom we came from and who’s we are. In the name of Jesus, Amen!
