Barbara Harrell Program 12
P ROVERBS 31:28-31 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Barbara’s therapy was cooking and making cakes, and everybody loved her cakes. Barbara was a wonderful mother to us and all who knew her. Our mother was the greatest caregiver and nurturer. She could tell you what was wrong when you didn’t feel good or by just looking at you when something was wrong. She would say take this, use that, buy that or put this on it. Then say let me fix you something to eat. Our mother was something else in the kitchen. You never met anyone who didn’t like her cooking. We will miss her fried chicken & mash potatoes, her turkey & dressing, her hams & potato salad, her lasagna & deviled eggs and we all agree her mac & cheese & lemonade and of course who could forget the Kool-Aid. Our mother was called by many names, in growing up all our friends to this day called her MS Harrell or Moms. Her sisters and in-laws called her Barbara. Her nieces & nephews called her Aunt Barbara, but you had those few with names or sayings of their own; Shirley called her Big Red. Amber called her Ain ’tie Barbara, and no one can say that like she can. Duke said she was that fine auntie. You must understand she was only about 7 – 10 years older than them so she was like their big sister. To her grandchildren she was Grams, Grandma & Nana. But to her children she was simply Momma. The most loving name she was known for was what her husband our Daddy called her Babs!
