BIOGRAPHY OF MADAM GRACE AMA ABREFI DARKWA SUNRISE JANUARY 2, 1942 - SUNDOWN MAY 25, 2022

The late Madam Grace Ama Abrefi Darkwa was born on the 2nd of January 1942, in Akyem Anamase. She was born to Opanin Kwabena Darkwa of Biremuase Oyoko clan in Akyem Anamase, and Obaapanin Akua Ampaa of Aduana clan, in Akyem Asuboa. Grace was the eighth born of eleven children. Her mother was a homemaker and her father was a college educated businessman and commercial farmer. She completed the equivalent of 3rd grade and rest of her childhood was spent farming with her family. Grace Darkwa was married at the age of 16yrs old to James Kwasi Kyei Kontoh who she met in her hometown of Anamase. James was an ex-Military Service man (who later became Nana Adu Kyei II, Akwamuhene of Akyem Anamase). Grace’s husband was an “orphan” with three younger siblings who were ultimately raised by her before she was blessed to have children of their own. Grace had twelve biological children in her lifetime. Her first born were twin girls who unfortunately passed away at birth. Her second born was also a girl who passed away at an early age. Her third born was Mercy, followed by Victory, Cecelia, Charlotte, Moses, and Aaron. After Aaron, Grace had another set of twins. Her twin daughter passed away during infancy and son passed away as a toddler. After a series of losses, she was blessed with her last born Nana Kwame Tawiah.
