Life Reflections Elwin was born to Verma E Austin-Johnson and Rudolph Johnson. His mom was Louisiana girl, and his dad grew up around Crawford Texas. They were married after World War ll and moved to Dallas to begin their life together. Wayne and Elwin were their only children. Elwin attended Dunbar, Pearl C Anderson, and Madison High School. He received his college degree from U-ATrlington. He was a har-dworking man. He had so many jobs he could have been an honorary Jamaican. He worked at Minyard ’ s, a carpet company, a Union stagehand, and a manager at a Sony Service Center. He loved sports and was very committed to the Madison Trojans, and the Dallas Cowboys (even including poor results over the past thirty years). When it came to baseball, he was for the Cincinnati Reds. Elwin loved to travel and before his health became a challenge, he visited his favorite cities-New York City, New Orleans, Atlanta, and the Bay area. Elwin ’ s church home was Lee Chapel AME church. Elwin spent a great deal of time working his family tree. He traced some branches back to the 1700s. Ancestry.com is going to miss his membership. In addition to sports, Elwin was an activist, and social justice warrior. In the ‘70 s and ‘80 s he was involved in grassroot efforts to get single member districts for the Dallas city council, projects to improve storm water to eliminate flooding in areas of south Dallas, and DART development to ensure all areas of the city received service. Elwin is survived by his brother Wayne and Lisa (Sister-in-Law), Glynnis, niece, AJ, nephew, and cousins from all branches of our family tree.
