Gary Jones

Gary Allan Jones passed away on March 8, 2023 at the age of 73. He was born to James L. Jones and Bessie Mae (Branch) Jones on December 13, 1949 in Dallas, Texas. He grew up in McGregor, Texas where he attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. After graduating from McGregor High School, Gary enrolled in McClennan Community College in Waco, Texas and continued his education at Prairie View A&M University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1973. Gary was an active member of the community and very passionate about education. He spent many years serving in leadership roles within the Prairie View A&M Alumni Association where he was awarded the honor of “Civic Achievement Member”. Also, he served the community as the Place 6 Representative on the Balch Springs City Council, and he was a member of The King of Solomon Lodge #514. Beyond his community service, Gary worked for Darr Equipment from 1975 until his retirement. Post - retirement, he enjoyed working in Dallas ISD as a substitute teacher. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, James and Bessie Mae Jones, his siblings, James L. Jones, Jr., Sherman Jones, Betty J. Hemphill, Johnnie Mason, and Ester Jackson. Gary is survived by his wife and stepson, Linda Jones and Brian McGill. He is also survived by his siblings, Freddie Jones, Detro Jones, and Delores Jones; his children, Heath Penny, Yakesha Jones, and Brandi Jones Burks; his grandchildren, Brandon Burks, Kyler Burks, Destiny Burks, Chawntrese Morgan Penny, Audrianna Morgan, Ayana Morgan, Halyssa Morgan Penny, and a host of nieces and nephews.
