He was a member of New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, TX. He was preceded in death by his father, Solomon Mathis Jr.; mother, Ruby Jean Mathis; two brothers, James Mathis and Curtis Ray Mathis; one sister, Linda Sue Blanton; brothers-in-law, Vernon Blanton and Milton Coleman; one niece, Belinda Mathis; one nephew, Darrion Mathis; grandfather, Solomon Mathis Sr.; grandmothers, Alverta Mathis and Mary Lowens. He leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Cindy Coleman (Carey Williams), Barbara Talley (Ronell Talley), Patricia Mathis (Cardell Buchan) and Ella Sledge; brothers, Larry Hartman and Charles Mathis (Roberta Crenshaw); extended brother-in-law, Thomas Bush; a host of nieces and nephews, Vernesha Blanton, Shameka Mathis, Roshunda Mathis, Ruby Johnson, Dequalin Rogers, Vernon Blanton Jr., Thomas Mathis, Jeremey Mathis, Wilson Mathis, Charles Jones, Deandre Jones; and a host of other relatives.
