T HOMAS C LARENCE M ARSHALL known to many as “T.C., Tommy, Marshall, or Lil’ Tommy” was born in Washington, County Texas on December 23, 1940 to Venieta Marshall and George Roberson. He was educated Pickard High School. He accepted Christ at the age of 12 with the St. Matthew Baptist Church on the Bluff. In 1959, he moved to Dallas where he worked for Mosher Steel as a welder for 10 years. Deciding to change career, he worked for Dresser Industry as a welder for 9 years. Still seeking to move up he began working for Ferguson Manufacturer as an engineer for 10 years. July 6. 1987 he began working for Pepsi in Mesquite, Texas where he was an assembly line worker. In 1988, he transferred to full-service division in Carrollton, Texas. In 1996, he was transferred back to Mesquite where he continued his work in Sales and Delivery until his retirement December 27, 2002. Later years he became an employee of the Golden Gate Funeral Home and A Crematory. Reverend Marshall united with the Bexar Street in 1979 under the leadership of the late Rev. R.L. Robertson. He was the van driver in his early years. He served as an Usher and then he was ordained as a Deacon. He professed his calling into the ministry and was licensed May 23, 1982 and ordained December 28, 1986. In 1984-85 he attended D. Edwin Johnson Institute where he completed 24 hours of Theological Studies. The legacy continued under the leadership of the late Rev. C.C. Robertson where he served faithfully in many capacities as Assistant to the Pastor, overseeing early morning worship, associate ministers, bereavement, benevolence, hospital, nursing facilities and home visits, pastor’s aide, pastor’s anniversary, maintenance and security, Bible Study, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. He was also instrumental in beginning the Senior Citizen Ministry where they traveled to many states enjoying life as God unfolds it. He had a love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the Chevrolet Corvette. He was smooth as butter, clean as a whistle and sharp as a tact. In other -word he was well-dressed from head to toe. He served as an instructor for Fellowship Missionary Baptist District Association since 2003 for ages 6 -8. God blessed him June 13-15 to serve as an Instruction in the National Baptist Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress ages 13-14 and an active member of the National Baptist Convention of America. He is a member of the Baptist Ministers Union of Dallas and Vicinity where he served as the Correspondent Secretary and Vice Chair of Courtesy Transportation for the City-wide Revival. Also, he was Vice Moderator of Auxiliaries for the Fellowship Missionary Baptist District Association and served on the Evangelical Board for the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America. On October 15, 2012, Reverend Marshall accepted the pastorate call of becoming the fifth Pastor of the legendary Bexar Street Missionary Baptist Church. The mantle has been passed on to him to lead the 200 membership forward in Christ Jesus and has been blessed beyond measures. He asked God to allow him to pastor 10 years and He did. He loved the Bexar Street Baptist and members past and present. He loved people in general. But most of all he loved the Lord. His favorite scripture John 4:24 – “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and truth.” He was honored on November 20, 2022 as the 7 th oldest member by Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn Arnold District 4 Dallas Texas. He met and married Annie McGowen on July 1, 1995. He loved his family which consist of his children, a bonus daughter, LaToya, who stole his heart over 25 years ago, a special granddaughter, Sheila, who traveled with him, along with sisters, brothers, and cousins. He may not have talked with you daily but you were never far from his thoughts. Also, he had a love for Bexar Street Church and members. His last sermon preached was Sunday, March 5 from John 3:16 “God So Loved, Who and What do You Love”. He is preceded in death by his parents Venieta Marshall and George Roberson; grandparents; two sons; brothers Sam Roberson and A.C. Marshall. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy a loving and devoted wife of 28 years Mrs. Annie Marshall; four daughters Debra Bonner (Eric) and Renee Jackson (Kennee), both of Dallas, Texas, Roshanda Fieldings (Anthony) of Orlando, Florida and LaToya McGowen of Bedias, Texas; three sons Samuel Marshall, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Thomas Marshall, Jr. (Marilyn), Charles Marshall (DeeDee), and Godson DeAndrea Williams all of Dallas, Texas; seven sisters Minnie Burrell, Independence, Texas, Gloria McGowen (Edwin) Houston, Texas, Dorothy Turner (Cedric) Fresno, Texas, Essie Womack of Galveston, Texas, Laura Goree (David) of Dallas, Texas, Lois Nix and Jackie Crawford of Bryan, Texas; six brothers Rev. Robert L. Marshall (Iris), and James C. Roberson (Joyce) both of Houston, Texas, George Roberson and Roosevelt Roberson of Brenham, Texas, John D. Roberson (Carolyn) of Galveston, Texas and Larry Davis of Brenham, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends .
