Sammie Louise Gross Mom, known to others as Sammie Louise, was the third child born to the late Sammy Gross and Eula Mae Walker on July 10, 1943, in Oakland, Texas. Sammie grew up from early childhood until her young adulthood in Galveston, Texas, where she was a proud member of a household of 12 children. Sammie was born to a family filled with an abundance of love, faith, hope and a lot of hard work. During her early years she attended public school from primary through high school in Galveston, TX. She was introduced to Christ at an early age and attended Avenue K Church of Christ in Galveston, Texas, where she was baptized around the age of 13. Throughout her life Sammie continued to grow and attend the West Vickery Church of Christ, Lake Como Church of Christ, Mitchell Blvd Church of Christ, Metropolitan Church of Christ, and Everman Church of Christ, until her final breath. Sammie worked in various ministries which included visiting the sick and shut-ins, preparing meals, the benevolence committee to name a few. Her personal interests and hobbies were many which included interior design, floral designs, wedding coordinator, super grandma, etc. Though life was filled with peaks and valley moments, Sammie remained hopeful and positive. She was blessed with three precocious daughters whom she loved dearly, and they honored and respected her until God called her home. As a young woman, she immediately began her journey in the workforce where she would go on to work for various hospitals ministering/comforting many who were sick and shut in, until she retired in 2008. Over the span of mom’s working career, she worked in health care for Saint Joseph Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital, Fort Worth State School, the Psychiatric Institute of Fort Worth to name a few. She had the gift of connecting to so many people and providing assurance and comfort to them in their times of need. Once her mind was made up about something there was no stopping her, until the job was complete. It was also evident throughout her life. Besides being reliable and loyal, she was known by her family as Grandma, Nana, Tator Cakes, “Lou”, Auntie, Little Weese, depending on who you ask.
