Vanessa Broussard Program
Vanessa Dale Jones was born September 25, 1954, in Dallas, Texas to the late Luther Jones Sr. and Alma Marie Jones. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and attended First Gospel Pentecostal Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late bishop Harold Smith. Later, she moved her membership to New Leaf Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, TX with Pastor R.O. Moffett. Vanessa graduated from Lincoln High School in 1973. Shortly after receiving her diploma, she joined the United States Airforce. During her service she was stationed at Carswell AFB working as a cook. She served her time in the military and received an honorable discharge. After serving her country, Vanessa worked at Dallas Independent School District as a bus driver until her retirement. Taking a journey through the life of Vanessa, you would find that she was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, MeMaw, aunt, cousin, and friend. As the family historian, she was proud of her family history and keeping everyone informed. Vanessa loved photography, she loved to travel, cook, and most importantly be amongst family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who called her MeMaw and talking on the phone with family. Vanessa loved to try new food and always enjoyed bringing her best food dish to family events, which was Collard Greens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Jones Sr. and Alma Marie Jones. One sister, Annie Ruth Robertson Lacy and her nieces and nephews. On March 29, 2023, Vanessa Dale Broussard heard the voice of the Lord say “ well done my child ”. She is survived by her two children: Verlencia “Vee” Jones (Criss) and Jason “Jay” Pitts (Dr Jennifer Pitts); four siblings: Annie Lee Pittman (James), Linda Casteel, Luther Jones (Jackie), and Audrey Dones; three grandchildren: Jaxson, Jayden, and Phoenix; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. If Vanessa was with us today she would tell us that she lived a great life, fought a good fight, did what she needed to do, and kept the faith. John 14:27: I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
