Vanessa Broussard Program

Vanessa Dale Jones was born September 25, 1954, in Dallas, Texas to the late Luther Jones Sr. and Alma Marie Jones. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and attended First Gospel Pentecostal Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late bishop Harold Smith. Later, she moved her membership to New Leaf Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, TX with Pastor R.O. Moffett. Vanessa graduated from Lincoln High School in 1973. Shortly after receiving her diploma, she joined the United States Airforce. During her service she was stationed at Carswell AFB working as a cook. She served her time in the military and received an honorable discharge. After serving her country, Vanessa worked at Dallas Independent School District as a bus driver until her retirement. Taking a journey through the life of Vanessa, you would find that she was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, MeMaw, aunt, cousin, and friend. As the family historian, she was proud of her family history and keeping everyone informed. Vanessa loved photography, she loved to travel, cook, and most importantly be amongst family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who called her MeMaw and talking on the phone with family. Vanessa loved to try new food and always enjoyed bringing her best food dish to family events, which was Collard Greens. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Jones Sr. and Alma Marie Jones. One sister, Annie Ruth Robertson Lacy and her nieces and nephews. On March 29, 2023, Vanessa Dale Broussard heard the voice of the Lord say “ well done my child ”. She is survived by her two children: Verlencia “Vee” Jones (Criss) and Jason “Jay” Pitts (Dr Jennifer Pitts); four siblings: Annie Lee Pittman (James), Linda Casteel, Luther Jones (Jackie), and Audrey Dones; three grandchildren: Jaxson, Jayden, and Phoenix; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. If Vanessa was with us today she would tell us that she lived a great life, fought a good fight, did what she needed to do, and kept the faith. John 14:27: I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

I often contemplate my childhood, Mama. I am a Father now, and now I know Hard work is mixed with fun and tough love. I learned that when you raised me long ago. I think of all the things you gave to me: Sacrifice, devotion, tough love, and tears, Your heart, your mind, your energy, and soul.

All these things you instilled onto me throughout the years.

You loved me unconditionally, You gave me strength and security, And then you did the hardest thing of all: You let me separate and fall, just so you could pick me back up.

Every day, I try my best to be, A Father, A Parent, A role model, like you were to me.

Thank You Mama I will always love you, “Smell you later” Jay

Although we seem so far apart Mama, know that you’re always in my heart. You filled my life with so much joy, to me you were the perfect Mother. A little while shall pass and then we will see each other, once again. Loved, remembered, and held so dear. In my heart and mind Mama you’re always nearby.

Thank You Mama I will always love you, Vee

We’ve had our ups and downs. I know we both were right and wrong.

But sister did I ever tell you. How you made us strong.

You helped me through the troubled times. When life is put to the tests And we were there as your support. When comfort was your guest.

Our families have grown up fast and left. We’ve done the best we could. It’s all to share the love, support, and kindness. Care and faith in one another, is the bond of our sisterhood. Back Down Memory: Dale was ambitious, a workaholic, feisty, and beautiful. She never would back down from a challenge. One of her crucial challenges is no matter where she was, Dale never left the house without MAKEUP on Dale was an outstanding businesswoman. Once a week I was allowed to wear One of her pretty blouses I was able to do this by paying $5.00 per blouse. I didn’t receive an allowance, so I had to use my lunch money and my reduce lunch tickets to pay for the blouses

Dale, had an impact on the family. She was the glue that held the family together.

Throughout the sadness we know you have gone to a better place. You will truly be missed as you celebrate your heavenly life.

Your Sisters, Annie, Linda, Audrey .

If roses grow in Heaven, Lord, Please pick a bunch for us Place them in our Mother’s arms And tell her they’re from us. Tell her that we love and miss her, And when she turns to smile, Place a kiss upon her cheek, And hold her for a while. Because remembering her is easy, we will do it every day.

We love you always, Vee, Jay, Jaxson, Jayden, Phoenix

With humbled hearts and uplifted spirits we would like to thank each and every one of you for the amount of love and support you all have showed us during this time. We have felt the warmth and comfort through your kind words, shared memories, hugs, prayers and your presence here today.
