Weldon Venters
Pastor W. L. Venters Jr. was born to the late Thelma McDade and Weldon L. Venters Sr. on January 3, 1952, in Dallas, Texas (however his Momma said he was born on January 2, 1952). He was affectionately called “Weldon Jr.” or “Jr.” by his family and close friends. He made his triumphant transition to glory on January 10, 2024, with his eyes looking toward Heaven surrounded by those who loved him. Assuredly, the angels rejoiced at his arrival. Raised in Dallas, Texas, Weldon Jr. received his education from the Dallas Independent School District where he enjoyed playing sports and music. As the eldest son and brother, he always took his responsibilities seriously. He cared deeply for his younger sibling and was a protective "big - little" brother to his older sister. Although he was often mischievous, when he found himself in trouble his sisters who would warn him saying, "Boy, Momma's gonna kill you!" In his early adulthood, Weldon Jr. found himself a young father of two boys, it was during this time of his life he heard the calling of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jr. heard the voice of the LORD however he continued to run from his calling to Christ until one day he had a life - altering event. After that life - changing experience, Weldon Jr. found salvation, accepted his calling to preach the word of God, and began to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone who would listen. One time, upon arriving home, he found a burglar in his home. He held the burglar down witnessing him until the police arrived. During that time, the burglar surprisingly accepted Christ as his Saviour. He eagerly sought divine knowledge and the works of the Lord Jesus Christ. Weldon Jr. regularly attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ennis, Texas, with his mother and sibling where his uncle the late Pastor William McDade, taught him how to be a faithful servant of the Lord. Weldon Jr had a beautiful singing voice and on Sundays, he could often be heard singing in the choir, "God Has Smiled On Me." During this period, he graduated from Southern Bible Institute and studied at several seminary schools, desiring to learn as much as he could about the works of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Reverend Venters later joined Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church located in Waxahachie, Texas. At the church he served as the Youth Pastor under the leadership of his uncle the late Pastor Ollie McDade. Reverend Venters had a passion for teaching the youth about the Lord and what was required to accept Christ to get to heaven. He loved to mentor and guide them, displaying a tough exterior at times but being loving, warm - hearted, kind, compassionate, and gentle on the inside. He also took a special interest in teaching his two little boys about the ways of the Lord. In 1985, Reverend Venters was called to serve as the pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Denison, Texas. After leaving Mount Zion, he was invited to lead the Alpha and Omega Baptist Church. While in Denison, he worked tirelessly to bring people to Christ by conducting revivals throughout Texas and winning souls for the Kingdom of GOD. In 2004, Pastor W.L. Venters Jr. was called to be the shepherd at Memorial Missionary Church where he served and worked tirelessly for 19 years, retiring in December 2023. As a shepherd, he loved singing, teaching, and preaching the word of God, and was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Winning souls for Christ was his top priority.
