William Green Program

L IFE R EFLECTIONS OF “S ONNY ” W ILLIAM C LIFFORD (S ONNY ) G REEN was born January 20, 1940, in Ft. Worth, Texas, the only child of Marshall Green and Inez Parker. He was also known by some as W.C.

He attended I.M. Terrell High School in Ft. Worth, Texas.

William met and fell in love with Shirley Faye Hodge in Mosier Valley, Texas, and they married on May 23, 1959, and remained married for 64 years until his passing. One year after they married, he joined the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he became an over the road truck driver for Yellow Freight Systems and Consolidated Freightways for many years until he and Shirley started their own trucking business, W & S Trucking.

In the 70’s William and Shirley were members of the Cobra’s Motorcycle Club and traveled to various places in the United States.

He was a member of the Snuff Box Racing Team and spent many weekends at Green Valley Raceway.

After having children, they became residents of the Bear Creek Community in Irving, Texas for many years before becoming members of the Dalworth Community in Grand Prairie Texas.

William later started driving once again for Consolidated Freightways until an injury forced him into retirement.

He became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in 2015 and remained a member until his passing.

He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins (and most definitely not a Dallas Cowboy fan!) He loved to talk and never met a stranger.

William was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Parker and father, Marshall Green.

On November 2, 2023, he departed from this walk of life and leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Green; six children, Kelvin King, Sharon West, Doletta Prowell (Michael), SGM(R) Ritchey Green, Carla Cage, and Keith Green (Shannon); nine grandchildren, Shuntai Mitchell, Sharla Sigler, Kamesha Partida, Bryson West, Ashleigh Green, Michael D. Prowell, Darius Green, K’Shawn Green, and Parker Green; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beverly Williams (Roy); bonus son, Larry S. Cage; special friends, LaSalle Johnson, Otha Cole, and Brass Brownlee; and a host of other family and friends.
