“Sonny”
L IFE R EFLECTIONS OF “S ONNY ” W ILLIAM C LIFFORD (S ONNY ) G REEN was born January 20, 1940, in Ft. Worth, Texas, the only child of Marshall Green and Inez Parker. He was also known by some as W.C.
He attended I.M. Terrell High School in Ft. Worth, Texas.
William met and fell in love with Shirley Faye Hodge in Mosier Valley, Texas, and they married on May 23, 1959, and remained married for 64 years until his passing. One year after they married, he joined the United States Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he became an over the road truck driver for Yellow Freight Systems and Consolidated Freightways for many years until he and Shirley started their own trucking business, W & S Trucking.
In the 70’s William and Shirley were members of the Cobra’s Motorcycle Club and traveled to various places in the United States.
He was a member of the Snuff Box Racing Team and spent many weekends at Green Valley Raceway.
After having children, they became residents of the Bear Creek Community in Irving, Texas for many years before becoming members of the Dalworth Community in Grand Prairie Texas.
William later started driving once again for Consolidated Freightways until an injury forced him into retirement.
He became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in 2015 and remained a member until his passing.
He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins (and most definitely not a Dallas Cowboy fan!) He loved to talk and never met a stranger.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Parker and father, Marshall Green.
On November 2, 2023, he departed from this walk of life and leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife, Shirley Green; six children, Kelvin King, Sharon West, Doletta Prowell (Michael), SGM(R) Ritchey Green, Carla Cage, and Keith Green (Shannon); nine grandchildren, Shuntai Mitchell, Sharla Sigler, Kamesha Partida, Bryson West, Ashleigh Green, Michael D. Prowell, Darius Green, K’Shawn Green, and Parker Green; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beverly Williams (Roy); bonus son, Larry S. Cage; special friends, LaSalle Johnson, Otha Cole, and Brass Brownlee; and a host of other family and friends.

T O M Y HUSBAND We spent 64 years together, some good and some bad, but I shall never forget the good times we spent together. I’m happy we had so many years with each other. I’m going to miss you so much! You’re no longer in pain, so now rest with Jesus. Someday we’ll be together again. All My Love Forever,
Your Wife, Shirley
As I think back over the last nine months, I was sure you would heal and get back to at least 80% of your health, but after time passed, the reality sunk in. I knew it was going to be a struggle getting back because your mind and body had been through so much. Thanks for giving up the car you loved so much, your ’55 Chevy, in order to purchase me my first car. You reminded me of that often! Every chance you got! You fought as long as you could, stubbornness steering your every step. But the Lord knew when it was enough. Rest easy now, Dad. Love you, SharÊGreenÊWest Spending time with you as you were nearing the end Holding your hand Helped me better understand. I am so thankful to have spent your last day with you My hand on your chest Praying for you as you took your last breath.
You said Lord help me and he did. He took the pain and suffering away. In the end I finally understood. I thank God that he can bring beauty from ashes and brokenness. Light to the dark places in our hearts.
Rest Daddy Love, Carla
It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you The day God took you home. A million times we missed you, A million times we cried, If our love could have saved you, You never would have died. To the grave you travel, Our flowers placed with care, No-one knows the heartache, As we turn and leave you there. If tears could build a stairway, And memories could make a lane We would walk right up to heaven, And bring you home again. We love you PawPaw. Sleep well in heaven with the angels.
We Love You TheÊGrandkids
Thank you for constantly reminding of the good times we all had. Now that you moved on to a better place I will never forget those memories, and I’ll try not to ruin other people’s surprises. “Get your bike Mesha” Love, Ash
M EMORIES OF William
S AFELY H OME I am home in Heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last. Did you wonder I so calmly Trod the valley of the shade? Oh! but Jesus' love illuminded Every dark and fearful glade. And He came Himself to meet me In that way so hard to tread; And with Jesus' arm to lean on, Could I have one doubt or dread? Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still; Try to look beyond earth's shadows, Pray to trust our Father's Will. There is work still waiting for you, So you must not idly stand; Do it now, while life remaineth- You shall rest in Jesus' land. When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home; Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come!
A CKNOWLEDGEMENT Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece, if so, we saw it there. Perhaps you prayed a sincere prayer or came to pay a call. Perhaps you sang a cheerful song, if so, we heard it all. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say. Perhaps you prepared a tasty dish, or maybe furnished a car. Perhaps you rendered a service unseen, near at hand or from afar. Whatever you did to console our hearts, by word or deed or touch. Whatever was the kindly part, we thank you, oh so very much.
Special thanks to the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice Mansfield
