Willie Monk, Jr._lrg stndFINAL

Willie Drew Monk Jr. was born February 25, 1952 to Willie Drew Monk Sr. and Willie Mae Monk. He accepted Christ at an early age at White Oak Grove Baptist Church. Willie was born in Homer, Louisiana but grew up in Dallas, Texas attending DISD. He worked in the sheetrock business for many years and later moved to California taking up a trade in an apprenticeship program in the printing industry. After moving back to Dallas, he worked for Sweetheart Cups for 10‑plus years. Willie was a jack - of - all - trades from dog training, to plumbing, to cutting trees. He was also a Minister in his own way. He would read his Bible daily, and often shared stories with family, friends, and strangers. Many times he would reference his life to that of Joseph in the Bible. The family church was New Saint Mark Baptist Church under the guidance of the late Pastor L. Jenkins, but he later attended Shiloh Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Superintendent Willie J. Nichols. “ W.D. ”, as he would often prefer to be called, enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved life, enjoyed collecting antiques, helping others any way he could, and was always the life of the party. He loved his family. His daughter was the apple of his eye, his grandkids were the highlight of his life, and he also dearly loved his siblings. He was preceded in death by both parents; four brothers, John Monk, Andrew Monk, Lester Monk, and Ellis Monk; and one sister, Juanita Odom. To cherish his memories, he leaves his children Pastor Teresa M. Brown (Roderick), Willie Williams, and Justen Monk; grandchildren Tiara, Kiona, Paige, Blake, and Kayla; eight great - grands; brothers Wilbert (Verna), Albert (Gwen), Billy (Lisa), Kelly, and Cedric; sisters Linda (Jerry), Janice, and Gloria; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins along with various other extended family members and friends.
