Hi, I know you’re doing much better now that you are with the love of your lifetime. Thank you for teaching me to be the man I am today. Thank you for teaching me to let my voice be heard, to stand up to those who may appear stronger and for those who are weaker. For strengthening me, to be able to fight and defend myself. For teaching me how to treat all women. There are an endless amount of key values in life that you’ve taught me in my lifetime and I will forever be grateful for your love and the way you have shaped me into a man who respects himself and others. I will miss you both with every breath I take and I will see you in a hundred years. I will love and cherish your memory forever. Love, Richie Champ, you were our superhero. You always made me believe that you could do anything. Even to this day, I still feel this way. I'd tell everyone I knew about the crazy stories involving you and they all said the same thing, 'your grandpa sounds like a badman' and they really hit the nail on that. I'm going to miss calling you on December 7th each year to hear you recite what happened on that day where a heinous attack took place. In general, I'm going to miss the way you made me feel and how you guided me to be a better version of myself. I know you don't get tired Champ, but I hope you're resting well now with Grammy. Love, Christen Dear Champ, I’m going to miss you calling me the Amazing Butterfly and how we used to go on our walks with the dogs. I’m gonna miss making a mess in the kitchen with you every time we cooked anything. I will always cherish the moments we had together and will miss you so much, but I know that you are in a better place and you aren’t in pain anymore. I love you so much and I know that I’ll see you again. Love, The Amazing Butterfly Dear Champ, We didn’t spend much alone time together especially since I was a shy kid. But I always loved you. You never made me feel any different than my other siblings. We weren’t the closest but I always loved you and I will continue to keep loving you. Love, Jermaine Leonard Coleman Sr. He was a man of many great titles, but to me he was my granddaddy. He was strong, funny, loving, and a man of God. Every Sunday, growing up I always wanted to go over his house, he would let me and Chrystal pretty much do whatever we wanted. He would climb trees when he was 80 something years old, I would laugh and say that's my granddaddy, he would walk to Texas stadium from Oak Cliff, I would think this man was crazy! and say to myself that's my granddaddy. He would make me try to drink that nasty grass juice. I would say yuck! and I would say that's my granddaddy. He wanted the best for all his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. I love him and I will truly miss my granddaddy, the strongest man I know. Lakesha
One thing I learned from Captn was that — through the many questions he's always asked us, whether it be a serious question or not; there was never any right or wrong answers to the questions (from my perspective). But they served as more of a beacon guiding us (grandchildren) forward in life, each in our own way through reflection, helping us along as we got older. He was a very wise man. Michael Captain, I think of 1 Corinthians 16:13, where it says “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” You were the epitome of what a man is and supposed to be. You stood strong in faith and showed me in wisdom and example how to walk in boldness. My earliest memories are of you letting me know that “I CAN DO ALL THINGS EXCEPT FAIL” and I appreciate the confidence you instilled into me. Captain, I love you, and because of you “I’m a Coleman and I’ll never forget it.” Chris His Words and Stories Will Live On Big Daddy was one of the funniest, toughest, most loving men you could ever meet. A true character. He had a sharp sense of humor, a fierce love for his family, and a way of turning ordinary moments into unforgettable stories. My own dad is always telling us stories — funny ones, wild ones, the kind that stick with you — and now I see exactly where he gets it from. Big Daddy was always ready with a joke, and this is the last one I remember him telling me: "I was in the Jack in the Box drive - through one morning, taking my time with my order. The lady behind me got impatient — honking, yelling, and cussing me out. So I paid for her meal. When she found out, she looked shocked and a little embarrassed, and she smiled at me like she was sorry. Then when I got to the next window, I showed both receipts… and took her food too! I figured, hey — I paid for it, it’s mine now!" That was Big Daddy — funny, quick with it, and full of so much wisdom. He taught us to love God, love our family, and love ourselves. His stories and his words live on through us, especially the ones we’ll keep telling — just like he did. Tiffani
In Loving Memory of Leonard “Captain, Ray, Champ” Coleman, Sr.
D ON ’ T G RIEVE Today I left my loved ones and as I go I pray, Lord don't let them grieve too much, because I've died today. Let there be no wailing echoing the halls, the same halls that held laughter and answers to my calls. I pray they all take comfort accepting the true way and listen when I tell them these three things today. Love will be forever, a promise that will last. So love me more than ever now my time with you has passed.
And last of all remember the glowing love to be, when our eyes meet once again, for all eternity.
The family of Leonard Coleman Sr. wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude for your love, prayers, calls, visits, and every act of kindness shown during this time of bereavement. Your presence today is a great comfort and blessing.
